Ichamara coffee from Kenya, particularly the Nyeri region, often exhibits a cupping profile characterized by a bright, complex,
and often floral-driven taste. It typically features notes of citrus, red berries, and dark fruits, with a vibrant acidity and a
smooth, syrupy mouthfeel. The coffee can also display subtle undertones of chocolate, caramel, and spices, depending on
the roasting and processing method.

Ichamara Factory is one of four wet mills operated by the New Gikaru Farmers’ Cooperative Society, located in the
Mukurwe-ini Sub-County of Nyeri. Officially registered in 2001 under Kenya’s Cooperative Societies Act, New Gikaru FCS
promotes economic empowerment through cooperative values such as equity, transparency, and democratic participation.
The society has a strong governance framework, with inclusive leadership that ensures gender representation, two women
are elected to the board, and four hold key executive positions.
Member farmers cultivate coffee on small plots averaging 0.15 hectares, with a total production area of about 611 hectares.
The farms lie between 1,400 and 1,600 MASL and are planted with SL28, SL34, Batian, and Ruiru 11, all thriving in the
region’s deep red volcanic loam soils.
During the main harvest season from September to January, ripe cherries are handpicked, sorted, and processed using
environmentally conscious washed methods. After pulping and fermentation, beans are sun-dried on raised beds to
preserve their vibrant, complex flavors before being sent for milling and export preparation.
