Kiangundo is one of four wet mills (locally referred to as “factories”) operated by the Kiama Coffee Farmers’ Cooperative
Society, a well-established producer group in Nyeri County. Located in Karatina, the cooperative represents over 3,000
smallholder farmers across the region. Kiangundo specifically serves 690 members, 520 men and 170 women, whose farms
span elevations between 1,700 and 1,950 MASL.
The area’s rich volcanic soil and cool, high-elevation climate enable slow cherry maturation, promoting dense beans and
vibrant acidity. The cooperative was established in 2005 and is committed to quality control, environmental stewardship,
and long-term sustainability through farmer training and support services.
